GLOBAL CHALLENGES, CROSS-CUTTING ANALYSES

In 2011, Lebanese multiconfessional NGO Adyan produced the documentary Against the Current (A’ks Al-Sayr) to address Lebanon’s conflict-ridden recent history. The film focused on selective and segmented memories, aiming to bridge gaps in communal memory by highlighting the dangers of selective remembrance. Through the actions of four religious figures (Emir Abd el-Kader, Imam Moussa Sadr, Bishop Salim Ghazal, and Father Makram Quzah), the documentary depicts situations where religious affiliation ceases to be a source of political division and becomes a force for mutual respect. Directed by Michelle Tayyan, the documentary is here republished with the permission of Adyan, all reproduction rights are reserved.
